Kite Spots in and around Tarifa

Where to go for a session when you are here?

Horizonz | Tarifa | Spot Check

Once you have made so far to come down to Tarifa, it really makes sense to get a few tips on where to go kite exactly.

Here is a guide which might just help you with that.

Los Lances

A wide sandy beach with great freestyle and freeride conditions. It’s a go-to spot for both beginners and experienced riders. Los Lances works well with both Levante (strong, offshore winds) and Poniente (milder, onshore winds). Expect a social atmosphere, though it can get busy in peak season.

Valdevaqueros

One of the most famous kitesurfing beaches in Tarifa, Valdevaqueros offers a large bay with consistent winds and flat to choppy water. When you see the mist over the horizon, then you know some Poniente is coming. Sometimes you can even get lucky if the forecast does not show any wind. Perfect for all levels, this spot is known for its legendary beach bars and vibrant community. Whether you're looking to ride or just relax with a drink, this is a must-visit.

Balneario

This is a challenging spot reserved for advanced riders. Balneario offers flat water near the shore and bigger waves further out, making it great for high-speed sessions, big kiteloops and wave riding. The strong offshore Levante wind creates an intense kiting experience, be prepared for gusty conditions. If there is no Rescue boat around (club members get 10% discount on tickets), be prepared to let go your equipment if needed, remember your safety is more important than your gear. The combination of offshore wind, and incoming waves give you an excellent mix of line tension, resulting in boosts all the way to the moon.

Punta Paloma

A stunning location surrounded by massive sand dunes and crystal-clear water. Punta Paloma is great for intermediate and advanced riders looking for stronger Levante winds and a more relaxed vibe away from the crowded main beaches.

Rio Jara

Freestyle lovers, this one’s for you! Rio Jara features a shallow lagoon with glassy, flat water, making it ideal for tricks and technical riding. While Poniente winds create the best conditions, be mindful that Levante can be overpowering.

Caños de Meca (Outside Tarifa)

If you’re looking for epic wave riding, head to Caños de Meca, a lesser-known spot just outside Tarifa. This area is perfect for advanced riders who want solid swells and a remote, scenic atmosphere. Works best with Poniente winds.
